If a particular page on an Internet site doesn't load for some reason or if a link is not functioning, the site visitor shall see an error page with some generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the site, that could make the visitor leave the website. A likely solution in cases like this is a function made available from some hosting service providers - the ability to set your own customized error pages which shall have the same design as your site and which can contain any text or images which you want based on the particular error. There are four well-known errors that may occur and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your web browser sends a bad request to the web server and it can't be processed; 401, if you're supposed to log in to see a web page, but you haven't done this yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to view a certain page; and 404, when a link that you have clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In all of these scenarios, site visitors will be able to see your custom made content instead of a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Hosting
You shall be able to set up customized error pages for each of your domains or subdomains. The feature is supported by all hosting solutions which we provide, so when you log in to your Hepsia CP and navigate to the Hosted Domains section, you may click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up which will show up, you may select the type of error page which should appear - a default one from our system, a conventional Apache server page or a custom one. For the latter option, you will need to specify the URL to the page, so when you use personalized pages, you have to upload the files inside your hosting account first. Another way is to use an .htaccess file positioned inside the domain or subdomain folder with a line for every error type. The exact syntax can be located in our Knowledge Base, to help you use this feature even if you don't have any previous experience.
